"Wings Are Meant For Flying" (by Joe DiMino)

Oh yes, you can clip them,
But then
You must clip them again
Inclined to make
Your cuts deeper-
Thinking they are still
Only feathers,
Not realizing the pain
Is in wingless time;

So you build a cage around them,
With all you think
Basic amenities;
Add a host of toys
To peck at,
Enhance your omnipotent
Window to outside,
Mimicking currents of once
Free to glide-
Thinking they will forget
It is wingless time…

Then the birds are gone,
Their spirits withered away,
The window free
Of sad reflection,
And cage
Relieved of wingless grasp….
