This valley
And its shadows
Of death I walk
Are of my own making…
Bending Higher Light away,
My refraction one of
The lesser,
That of an ardent soul
Rebelling against
Ethereal triumph…

The magician in me
Manipulates light
With majestic slight-of-hand--
Fooling the eyes
But never
The loving heart
Blindest of critics
Seeing no prestidigitation
But sensing all
Of truth….
