"One Cloud" by Joe DiMino

You see—this one cloud
Follows me, much like
The chill in my air;
Though the sun
Is all about
Never on me
Anywhere—
(One cloud
Not seeming to care)

As I said,
One cloud…

Always overhead

The same,

As if
Some drunken scrawl forgotten
Gave copyright
Control of my name—

Seeming to take
Great delight
In shading me,
Keeping me opaque
Hiding the moon as well,
Dogging me
Through the night

One gray sheet of overcast

A persistent
Inclement spell

I thought of my mentor, Poe…
I thought of his mentor
Hell
