"Night and Day of Human Nature" by Joe DiMino

Not Vampire nor owl
yet the night
often seems dawn
to me…

I’ve found
one can do wonders
with shadows and mist,

dark its own special
clarity—

air mysteriously whistling

with dull creaks
of structures
setting and unsettling,
say more of man-made frames
and notions
than the best King’s English
that only constructively
speaks—

the heart both lover
and warrior by nature;

as the soul both sinner
and priest—
all part of the same human creature
only half comprehended
in light of day….
