Love called
I did not answer—
too much on my plate,
no time to flower
and date.

Love called
I did not hear—
postponed another year,
emphasis on career.

Love called and called…
I stalled and stalled…
till Love’s voice said
a sad goodbye
taking her sun
from my sky

and when the night came
darkness all the same

her distance I could tell
as every star fell….
