"I Do Not Remember" (by Joe DiMino)

I do not remember
My fist few steps,
But I am told
They ended with falling--
And balance I have sought
Since then--
The soul in search of equilibrium;
The mind making weightless excuses
For tilting.
I thought of a tree, pressed by wind,
And how flexibility was build into effort;
That crack when failing--
The unregistered sharp
That can precede
A sinking-flat--
All seemed real as life--
Notes I have heard in wind
Supporting;
And those who have dulled with gale
Tipping me--
Their faces in retrospect
Were the same;
Leaning all towards Timing--
The variable that can fall
In grams or pounds,
With never a measure of guilt…
