I awaken as a child
To the nearness of my mother
Sensing for breath—
Warmth of joy on her face
As my eyes mature
Into focus;
I reach for her day
In discovery—
My fingers
Closing around
All of her brightness;
It is the trusting grasp
Of a newborn,
And the surrendering
Of a universe of love—
