"High Places" (by Joe DiMino)

Serpents can be aloft,
See themselves in
Images of light,
But their rain back to earth
Is still soil—
And none of it, fertile;

Serpents can ride
On fluffy clouds,
Through trips of radiant-blue
With splashes of rosy too—
But they still
Shed their skins in time,
And scales fall upon the roses
With a deafening crunch—

Nation, there is no
Free-lunch
That is not a bit rancid;
Back to basics!
Back to God
Follow your divinity
Within—
Be led by the spirit
Of freedom,
And not by fallible men.
