"Here I Am, Here You Are" (by Joe DiMino)

I could tell you the old stuff
About promising the world;
But truth be told
An entire world
Worthless
Without a human heart—
And for me
Love far more appealing
Than any diamond
Or gold
The universe has to offer—

So, I affirm now
Let the world
Keep the world,
So the moon and sun
Will have sense yet
To shine;

And let the other mysteries of life
Surface and sink
So the sea and its tide
Will still have reason
To know
Why fish
Really like to drink;

And only here am I
And here are you,

Together alone—letting words
Still keep us apart….
