Extreme heat affects the mind
I guess like pain
And sorrow
In many arid ways—
The body
Not a desert by nature,
But the comfortable
98.7 torrid by many standards;
So by degrees
Always a bit lesser
I can relate:
Pause with the lizard
In the shade of a cactus,
Beneath a rock
Hide like the snake
At high-noon
Shamefully more comfortable
At times
In lesser light…
