"Chasing Words" by Joe DiMino


I have this mix
(Emotions that is)
About day and night;
Loving the light
(Really I do God!)
But feeling more alive
Indeed! More inclined
To write when all 
Is quiet and subdued—
Except for the cats
And other hunters…

I guess it is
My greater instinct—
The one I am not
Supposed to still have
Or at least be able
To rise above
Distinguishing me
From the other animals
The mind experts say
Wink! Wink!

Hmm—the creator in me
A primal predator of sorts
(What a thought!)
With laser eyes on the inner
Chasing words about the dark
Till a mouthful
And a spitting-out
In rhyme and prose….
