"Born to Die" (politics USA 2014)" by Joe DiMino

I sit on the edge
Overlooking the sea;
Waves cannot touch
Me up here,
Nor the tide
Carry me out;
Yet, out I long to be
With the transgressions,
A sack and a weight
To terminate in depths—
To say I feel no guilt
For others
Is to say, one drop of brine
Does not cling while grate
Against another—
Like the tides
We push and pull
May it be war or love
Motions all the same;
Fit or not
We perish
Not for the lack of trying
But ultimately
For the cleanse
Of dying….
