 “All-Hallows’-Eve in the Valley”(by Joe DiMino)

Shadows creep
Across the valley floor;
Up the mountain sides
Darkly they explore;
And at golden peaks—
Holy candles snuffed—
Daylight, behind the crests
Falls first victim,
Leaving colder and still
Silhouettes
Of what once were
Demonstrably alive—

Thus, Night enters…
Dark armies of eyes;
(And a hawk)
The Moon’s alter ego—
For which does the cries,
The beast itself
Or its shadow that flies?—
And what really dives?
And what really dies?
No Innocent left
To tell us….
