"A Dark Tale" by Joe DiMino

They fell to earth
as feared
as dreamed
authors schemed,
stars sure in place
dropped from space,
harder than we thought
smaller than we thought
dots off celestial cloth

Had we been lied to?
by science
religion
what shock when we saw
downed stars
smothered by earth
brilliant no more

Left only darkness
gone shades
of dawn and dusk
would light return
we dared not trust,
without the day
in those dreary folds
only nightshade grows,
damp and deep
afraid of sleep
restful moments
ruffled at the seam
perhaps even death
just darker scheme
