"A Matriculating Warrior" (by Joe DiMino)

Love has many faces—
First that glimpse
As a new moon—
Oh, full you were!
Yet a sliver
And a dark
The first appearing
Peel of light—
Far from the core
Superficial dawning
For youth, our natural,
Sees only its way
Before the veils lifted
One by one ever closer
As brighter heart revealed
Through joy
And sorrow
A matriculating warrior
Of that ancient battle
For the soul
