"A Cloak of Glitter and Silence" (by Joe DiMino)

All I see a constant flux
Of cause and effect:
Ask the snake, when not
Blaming…to teach us
Also the other arts
Of hearing
And tasting
Outside the apple
And away
From its
Core…

Perhaps closer
To understanding earth
With a palate for air
As well
As breathing
Are the lowly
With an honest
Slither;

I have learned
More of life
From crawling babies
And tragic gutters
Than any priest
Who wrapped his body
In a cloak
Of glitter
And silence—
